The healing journey of a widowed, unschooling badass in Delaware.

My grandfather, David, is 93 years old. His mind and memory are failing, but his curiosity remains inspirational.
Isaac had his first public performance on the trumpet and David was fully engaged with the music and the kids in the ensemble. He had questions for all of them and thoroughly enjoyed the answers.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to teach our children how to change a tire. It wasn’t part of a life skills curriculum or plan, it just happened.
Last night, the car they were riding in got a flat. Without hesitation they got to work and resolved the problem without adult guidance.

But instead, I get caught up in sorting.

World of Chaos is hitting York, State College, and Lansdale, Pennsylvania, this weekend.
Isaac became eligible for the adult program at Elevated Studios Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when he turned 13 in May.
He’s joined a leadership team and his learning has found a new gear.
He’s a hungry reader, budding trumpet player, and maturing jiu-jitsu practitioner. I love his different interests, but his fondness for baking brings the most joy to our house.
This week he celebrated Kristen’s birthday with gluten-free Brazilian cheese bread (holy smokes!) and her favorite chocolate cake.
