Day 1 of our 31 Days of Lego comes from one of our home education friends and includes lots of ways to have indoor fun.
31 Days of Lego
Tomorrow we join over 300 local creators in making art every day in July with Delaware Fun-A-Day.
I’ll be building alongside my sons and our home-educating friends. Each day we’ll piece together a Lego sculpture and ultimately put them all on display at the Fun-A-Day Art Show in August.
I used painter’s tape to mark out our approximate display area, then played with different configurations while I figured out the maximum dimensions for each sculpture in inches and, most importantly, Lego studs
Although this last design allows for more than 31 builds, I want to give our creators many options for starting points. I want to add some round templates and let the kids see what they fancy.
I’m excited because I rarely build for my self. I’m usually sorting or facilitating someone else’s build. This month I get to play with all the inspirations I get from regularly watching kids bring their imaginations to life.
We Love Competition
The easiest way to inspire a Zerbey boy is to show them a contest to enter. This week they entered local Lego and Pokémon competitions.
Time to Build: March, 2022
It may be a crazy thing to devote an entire room as a Lego workshop; but when we have new and old friends over to create, it doesn’t seem crazy at all.
Time to Build: Twosday Edition
We’re starting to get back into our rhythm with some fun building.
Thanks to Jessica at The Connected Life for these pictures.
Time To Build: 2022
We restarted our Time to Build Lego club today. It’s been a long time coming as I struggled with organizing our massive collection and getting my house ready for guests again.
I’m not sure I could have done it without my girlfriend’s help, support, and creative problem solving. Together we got the workshop in more than enough order for the first of many fun building days.
Cooperation, competition, and creativity ruled the day.
Correcting a Mistake
I can’t remember why I was on a tirade. I’m sure it was stupid and embarrassing and my own doing. My younger son brought a piece of art to give to me to calm me down or distract me. I was a shit about it and brushed it aside.
He was away this weekend and I found the spin art created from his first KiwiCo build.
I wanted to express my gratitude in a special way, so I built a special frame for his art.
This is waiting for him to find in his bedroom, but I hope he’s okay with keeping it in a more heavily trafficked area.
“Family” Crafting
Romantic relationships can be a lot trickier when children are involved. My girlfriend and I are both single parents and our biggest relationship struggles have been in finding partners who connect with our children. To complicate things, we hope all the children involved get along as well.
In each other’s families we’ve found a beautiful combination of personalities. There is balance and respect and a lot of fun.
Last night we spent time building bracelets and picture frames from the Lego Dots theme.

Lego Filter Fun
While sorting Lego, I took time to explore different shape and color combinations.
Lego Therapy with the Boys
Audiobook on the speaker (Ready Player Two), long-neglected models being completed, and my hands bringing order to this chaos.
