Wrestling With Robots could be the title a chapter of my autobiography.
When I set out to build a small scale chessboard, I knew one of my armies would be the greater challenge. Plants and robots seemed like natural adversaries, but I have a lot more experience with robots and the wealth of Lego references for automatons is immense. There lies my difficulty, I want to create something new and different.
I deconstructed an existing chess board to fit Delaware Fun A Day (DEFAD) specifications.
Castles and knights presented a speed bump for my plant army, but I was pleased with the simple results.
The robot army demanded more attention.
There are many more mechanical elements than botanic ones. Once I settled on purple as a theme, it narrowed what I could with.
Keeping the robots small was harder than fitting all the plants, but I learned through a lot of experimentation.
The board is playable and the pieces move fairly well. I hope to see art show attendees engaged in a game.
